OUR MASKS ARE FREE!!!!!

A little bit about the “Mask Project” - In January, Kelly and Todd opened Palmetto Stitches and Quilts in Camden, SC. Little did we know that in March, we’d be facing a mandatory closure due to the Corona virus, and we would be sending our employees home to “shelter in place.” At the same time, Dr. Holmstrom, the medical director at KershawHealth in Camden, asked if we could help make some masks for the hospital, as they were facing a shortage due to the virus. We began assembling kits, handing them out for free, and asking people to return the masks to us so that we could get them to the hospital. The response was overwhelming! We’ve now delivered almost 1000 masks to KershawHealth workers, as well as an additional 800 masks to doctor’s offices, EMS workers, nursing home employees, home health and hospice workers, bankers, non-profit workers and now, to businesses that are deemed essential.   And the masks continue to come in!

People have generously made masks, using both our donated materials and, in many cases, their own supplies. Despite many offers to purchase the masks, we’ve elected NOT to sell them (Disclaimer:  We do sell fabric and supplies, as we always have.  It's what we do!)  We see the masks as our way to “give back” to a community that has done so much for us. Many of the volunteers making masks feel the same way, and they're sewing the masks!

That said, we recognize that not everyone can sew, and many have insisted on *some way* to donate to support the effort.   There are many worthy causes, but we have settled on one that is important to us. Again, every mask is free, and nothing is requested or expected in return! However, if you’re looking for a good cause, we’d suggest The River Church Community Fund.   That fund was established to support those in the community that are unable to obtain adequate food during these difficult times – especially the seniors that are part of the Meals on Wheels program. 100% of the funds are used right here in Kershaw County, and the donations are tax deductible.   If you feel so inclined, you can make a donation to this effort by clicking Support the Mask Project.

Thank you again and be safe!
